The Sankirtan Movement

The congregational chanting of the Holy Names — the yuga dharma, the prescribed process of God realization for this age of Kali

Lord Chaitanya leading the Sankirtan movement

हरेर् नाम हरेर् नाम हरेर् नामैव केवलम्
कलौ नास्त्य् एव नास्त्य् एव नास्त्य् एव गतिर् अन्यथा

harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam
kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva nāsty eva gatir anyathā

"In this age of Kali there is no other means, no other means, no other means for self-realization than chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name, chanting the holy name of Lord Hari."

— Brihan-naradiya Purana 38.126

Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu inaugurated the Sankirtan movement five hundred years ago in Bengal, India. He predicted that the chanting of the Holy Names of Krishna would spread to every town and village of the world, delivering all living entities from the cycle of birth and death.

Sankirtan is not an ordinary sound vibration — the Holy Name is non-different from Krishna Himself. By chanting sincerely, one directly associates with the Supreme Personality of Godhead and gradually awakens their dormant love for Him.

Congregational Chanting

Sankirtan is the yuga-dharma - the recommended spiritual practice for this age of Kali. Through congregational chanting of the Holy Names, hearts are purified and love of God awakens.

Community & Fellowship

Devotees come together in joyful assembly, creating a spiritual atmosphere where everyone can participate regardless of background, caste, or qualification.

Path of Pure Love

Lord Chaitanya inaugurated the Sankirtan movement to freely distribute Krishna-prema - pure love of God - to all living beings without discrimination.

Worldwide Movement

Through ISKCON, the Sankirtan movement has spread to every corner of the world, fulfilling Lord Chaitanya's prediction that His names would be chanted in every town and village.

परिचय

About Chaitanya Niketan

A humble abode dedicated to the service of Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the propagation of His divine mission

Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in Mayapur, West Bengal in 1486 AD. He is Krishna Himself, appearing in the mood of His greatest devotee, Srimati Radharani, to teach the world the process of pure devotional service through the chanting of the Holy Names.

Along with Lord Nityananda and the Pancha Tattva, He spread the Sankirtan movement throughout India, accepting everyone regardless of caste, creed, or social position. His only instruction was to chant the Holy Names and to teach others to do the same.

यारे देख, तारे कह 'कृष्ण'-उपदेश

yāre dekha, tāre kaha 'kṛṣṇa'-upadeśa

"Whomever you meet, instruct him on the teachings of Krishna."

— Chaitanya Charitamrita, Madhya 7.128

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada

Srila Prabhupada & ISKCON

His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder Acharya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), fulfilled Lord Chaitanya's prediction by bringing the Sankirtan movement to the Western world in 1965.

Chaitanya Niketan follows in his footsteps, presenting the teachings of Krishna Consciousness in their pure form as delivered through the disciplic succession — without change, interpretation, or compromise.

"Chant Hare Krishna and be happy."

— Srila Prabhupada
